After their Corona infections, Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have returned to the training pitch. Thomas Müller expects strenuous weeks at FC Bayern
Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka are expected to be available for FC Bayern in Friday’s home match against Bayer Leverkusen. Both had missed the Nations League games against Hungary (0:1) and England (3:3) due to a Corona illness and had left the DFB quarters early.
On Tuesday, they were back on the training pitch in Munich. In addition, several players were part of the eleven-man training group who have already returned from their national teams: Matthijs de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch (both Netherlands), Dayot Upamecano, Benjamin Pavard (both France), Marcel Sabitzer (Austria) and Josip Stanisic (Croatia). Kingsley Coman trained individually after tearing his muscle fibre.
Müller hopes for “natural self-conception “
Fitted German internationals from the Bayern squad were still in action on Monday night, but were only able to use the internationals to a limited extent to improve their form. “For us Bayern players, the focus is fully on the next few weeks. That will be exhausting enough,” said Thomas Müller after the England game, referring to the recent misery in the Bundesliga.
He knows that an upswing at Bayern would also be good for the World Cup: “Since we have a lot of Bayern players, it would already be an advantage if we had such a natural self-image, combination security, processes that you can fall back on, that also work at the club,” Müller said. “That would be cool if we can work on that.
