Nations League: Canada take the lead, Mexico face elimination

The CONCACAF association is also currently playing Nations League matches. Honduras achieved a notable victory against Mexico in the quarter-finals.

It’s not over yet. The CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals, in which the North and Central American national teams compete, still have second legs to play. Much to the delight of the Mexicans, who lost 2-0 away to Honduras on Saturday night.

Luis Palma scored twice against the Mexican cult keeper Guillermo Ochoa in the second half (64th, 83rd), which the favorite will have to overcome on Tuesday night. An unpleasant scene on the sidelines of the game: Mexico’s coach Javier Aguirre was pelted with objects by the home fans, sustaining a bleeding wound to the head.

At the same time, Canada celebrated a 1-0 away win against Surinam. The late winning goal was scored by substitute David “Junior” Hoilett (81st), three minutes after he came on. Bayern Munich professional Alphonso Davies has opted out of international team appearances during this international match phase.

In the first two quarter-finals, the USA were able to celebrate 1-0 away wins against Jamaica and Panama against Costa Rica.
