After four years in Bamberg, national player Chris Sengfelder only moved to the reigning Champions League winners from Bonn last summer. After just one year, his time in the Rhineland is already over: he signed with JDA Dijon
Chris Sengfelder, who only moved to Bonn from Bamberg last season, is moving on after just one season with Telekom Baskets. The 29-year-old is moving to JDA Dijon in France, the power forward’s first stop abroad. At least in the professional world: before his professional career, he already played at two US colleges, Fordham University and Boise State University. He then made his debut for Braunschweig in the BBL.
The 2022 European Championship bronze medalist was captain in Bonn last season and appeared in 56 games for the Baskets across all competitions. He averaged 8.5 points and 3.7 rebounds. Bonn’s Sports Director Savo Milovic commented on his departure as follows “Chris is similar to Harald Frey. In his role as captain, Chris also always put himself fully at the service of the team, for which we are grateful to him. However, one of the lessons we learned from last season is that, although we had a broad line-up, we were too similar in terms of player types, which meant we lacked variability. “
Sengfelder meets Obiesie
Milovic also mentions the two new additions Bähre and Soares in the wide positions, which left no room for Sengfelder: “With Till Pape, Jonathan Bähre and Rivaldo Soares, we now have three players whose skills complement each other in this position, which will give us more tactical options. We wish Chris Sengfelder every success and all the best in his new environment.”
In Dijon, Sengfelder will also meet Joshua Obiesie, whom he already knows from the DBB team. The 24-year-old guard moved to France at the beginning of April and recently extended his contract for the coming season. In the BBL, Obiesie has played for Frankfurt, Munich and Würzburg in the past.
However, one of Obiesie’s former teammates from his Frankfurt days is returning to Würzburg: Lukas Wank, a 2021 Olympian, is joining the Baskets after a year in Oldenburg, who have already had to cope with a number of departures after reaching the semi-finals, including that of MVP Otis Livingston and Defensive Player of the Year Javon Bess.
