Joshua Kimmich (26) will be missing from FC Bayern until the end of the year. Julian Nagelsmann explains how things could go from there.
“Slight infiltrations” Joshua Kimmich still has in his lungs and will therefore also miss the last competitive games of the year with FC Bayern. The same applies to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Both, said coach Julian Nagelsmann on Friday, are not taking a complete break, they “are allowed to do a bit of regenerative work under very little strain, but no great strain on the heart and the body”. After ten days, a new picture will be taken, but then the first half of the season will be over.
The normal way is for “the infiltration to become less or go away,” Nagelsmann explains. “As soon as that happens – the statistics show that this is the case after ten days – they can both train up normally. Both were away for a longer period of time, then of course they have to do rehabilitation training and then they will be with the team normally for the second half of the season. That’s the plan, and I’m working on the assumption that that’s the case. “
Nagelsmann is not worried about Kimmich – Goretzka is out again
Concerns that Kimmich won’t be able to reach his previous level due to the infection, Bayern’s coach is “not worried at all because the infiltration is not that dramatic. It’s a precautionary measure that he’s still taking a bit of a break. He didn’t have any symptoms, so he didn’t have a serious infection. With Choupo the symptoms were a bit more, but I’m not worried. “
Nagelsmann will also have to replace Leon Goretzka again on Saturday against Mainz, who continues to have problems with his patella tendon. “Not much can happen there,” Nagelsmann promises, “it’s nothing dramatic. We just want to be careful.” Serge Gnabry will return to the line-up.
