Madrid – Record Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal has announced his return to the tennis tour after an injury layoff. The 35-year-old Spaniard shared on Instagram that he will play at the Masters in Madrid from May 1 to 8.
“Even though the preparation time was short, I really want to play at home,” the world number four wrote. Nadal had been off for a month due to a fatigue fracture in a rib. He will try to do as well as he can, he promised in his post. “See you in Madrid.”
Nadal had won his 21st Grand Slam tournament title overall at the Australian Open at the start of the year. That makes the former world number one the record holder ahead of Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Switzerland’s Roger Federer, who have each celebrated 20 Grand Slam victories.
