Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal will not be competing at the US Open this year. The Spaniard made the announcement late on Wednesday evening.
He had decided not to take part in the tournament in New York – a place where he has “great memories”, the 22-time Grand Slam winner wrote on his Instagram channel.
“I will miss the electrifying and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100 percent this time,” he told his fans, to whom he expressed his gratitude. “I’ll miss you all and I’ll see you another time. “
Nadal returns at Laver Cup
He wished all the other players the best of luck. Finally, he revealed when he will return to the tour: “My next tournament will be the Laver Cup in Berlin,” said Nadal.
The US Open takes place from August 25 to September 8, the Laver Cup from September 20 to 22.
Nadal was last defeated in the singles at the Olympic Games in Paris by eventual Olympic champion Novak Djokovic. The two had already met in the second round, as Nadal is only ranked 159th in the world due to his long injury

Nadal had also formed a dream doubles team with Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniards were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
