Stuttgart – Former world number one Andy Murray and top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas are through to the quarter-finals of the ATP grass-court tournament in Stuttgart.
There the two tennis stars will meet on Friday. Britain’s Murray won against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik 6:3, 7:6 (7:4). He was already trailing 2:5 in the second set. Tsitsipas from Greece, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, easily beat Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker 6-3, 6-4 despite a brief rain interruption.
Murray and Tsitsipas are taking part in the €769,645 event at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof for the first time. It serves as preparation for the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon starting on 27 June, which Murray has already won twice.
The 35-year-old, who almost ended his career because of serious hip problems, is now only 68th in the world rankings. Tsitsipas has celebrated his greatest successes so far on clay and hard courts. In Stuttgart, where he had a walk-through at the start, the 23-year-old is also one of the top favourites.
