Denise Mueller-Korenek has made history by becoming the fastest human on a bike, breaking the previous record in some style. The recorded speed of 183.9mph beat the existing record set by Fred Rompelber in 1995. He had got to 167mph, so she has really eclipsed that speed, beating her own record for the fastest female in the process.
The record was broken by female cyclist/racing driver team
Mueller-Korenek is a former champion cyclist and she set the record with the help of female professional racing driver Shea Holbrook, who drove the drag racing car that pulled her to reach 100mph. She then pedaled her custom-made bike whilst in the vehicle’s slipstream to achieve the phenomenal speed of 183.9mph.
Guinness World Records will soon be updated once verified
The feat is the first time that a woman has held the record for overall cycling land speed. Whilst the Guinness World Records have not yet verified the achievement, the application will be submitted and reviewed.
They went over 8mph faster than intended
Mueller-Korenek’s kids were there to witness the amazing moment at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Her 18-year old son was amongst the first to congratulate his Mum on what will no doubt be a very difficult record to beat. The previous record had stood for over two decades and the 45-year old mother admitted that she had not intended to get to the speed, in fact, they had only planned to go up to 175mph.
What an amazing achievement and a great story of girl power!
