Moukoko advisor criticizes BVB: “A lot was promised”

Youssoufa Moukoko had imagined the 2023/24 season very differently. After an unsatisfactory year, Dortmund’s striker is toying with the idea of a move – offensively conveyed by his advisor

Youssoufa Moukoko has played two senior international matches for Germany and has now made 75 appearances in the Bundesliga, in which the youngest Bundesliga debutant in history has scored a total of 17 goals. Last season, however, he only made 20 appearances in the Bundesliga, 16 of them as a substitute – scoring five goals in the process.

The hoped-for career leap failed to materialize. With European Championship player Niclas Füllkrug and new signing Serhou Guirassy (arriving from VfB Stuttgart) playing key roles in BVB’s plans, Sebastien Haller and Moukoko are considered candidates to leave the club.

Moukoko is planning his departure anyway. Advisor Patrick Williams made this clear in an interview with Fabrizio Romano: “I say BVB are making a mistake if they let Youssoufa go. With so little playing time, everyone will know that Youssoufa’s market value is low and Dortmund can’t expect much. “

In January 2023, Moukoko had extended his contract with Dortmund until 2026 after a tough contract poker game. “Of course I was honored by the interest from other clubs, but ultimately it’s a decision of the heart,” the striker made clear at the time. Williams explains in this regard: “If it had been about money, he could have accepted other lucrative offers where he could have earned more than three times as much. “

“Interest from England, Spain and France “

How the situation surrounding Moukoko has developed since January 2023 does not please Williams. “Youssoufa was promised a lot before he signed, but that didn’t materialize,” said the advisor to the once-hyped talent: “He was only ever interested in playing and developing – not anything else.”

Now there are “enough clubs who are convinced of Youssoufa’s qualities and want him in their team”, Williams affirms. “We wanted it differently, but that’s the soccer business. Youssoufa is completely clear-headed, extremely focused and knows what he wants in order to further his career.”

Moukoko is likely to be drawn abroad. “We are sounding out interest from England, Spain and France,” reveals Williams.

It’s hard to imagine Williams going on the offensive like this without consulting Moukoko. BVB should be able to assess the statements – and not be opposed to a departure, provided the conditions are right. It is also up to Williams to obtain a suitable offer for his protégé that satisfies all parties
