MotoGP calendar 2024: Grand Prix of Argentina canceled without replacement

Instead of 22, there will only be 21 MotoGP events in the 2024 season – Termas de Rio Honda will not be replaced by another race track on the calendar

The MotoGP calendar for the 2024 season will shrink from 22 to 21 race events. As MotoGP promoter Dorna Sport and motorcycle world federation FIM have announced, the Grand Prix of Argentina in Termas de Rio Hondo has to be canceled

The cancellation of Argentina has already become apparent in recent weeks. Under the new President Javier Milei, politicians are pursuing a course of spending cuts. State subsidies for the Grand Prix have been cut as a result.

Termas de Rio Hondo, which is located in the province of Santiago del Estero, hosted the Motorcycle World Championship from 2014 to 2019. After being canceled for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, the MotoGP returned in 2021.

The event was a complete success. Last year, 186,000 visitors were counted over the entire weekend. On Sunday alone, around 72,000 fans gathered in the grandstands.

This year, Argentina would have been the third Grand Prix on the calendar from April 5 to 7. At short notice, MotoGP promoter Dorna Sport and the FIM did not nominate a replacement for this date.

The new Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary is on the calendar as a reserve track. However, it was not used.

The sprint of the premier class will once again take place on Saturday at all Grands Prix
