Fermin Aldeguer takes over from Marc Marquez in the Gresini team and also takes over his crew – The Spaniard gets a GP24 as a MotoGP rookie
It has been known since the spring that Moto2 rider Fermin Aldeguer has signed a contract with Ducati for the 2025 MotoGP season. Now the team for which he will ride has finally been confirmed. It is the Gresini team. The official announcement is expected in the coming days.
Aldeguer will take over at Gresini-Ducati from Marc Marquez, who has signed with the Ducati factory team for 2025 and 2026. As the new team-mate of Alex Marquez, whose Gresini contract has been extended until the end of 2026, Aldeguer will ride a Ducati Desmosedici GP24 in the 2025 MotoGP season.
However, Aldeguer is not only taking over Marc Marquez’s seat, but also his crew. Crew chief Francesco “Frankie” Carchedi, chief mechanic Filippo Tognoni, electronics engineer Mattia Sereni and mechanics Marco Rosa Gastaldo, Mirco Fiuzzi, David Castaneda and Marco Bonazzi will all be working for the rookie from Spain in 2025.
In the current 2024 Moto2 season, Aldeguer is in fourth place in the standings just before the halfway point of the season. In the service of Luca Boscoscuro’s Speed-Up team, he has achieved a total of seven victories on his own bike, two of them in the current 2024 season.
With four consecutive victories in the last four races of the 2023 Moto2 season, Aldeguer has recommended himself for promotion to the premier class. In the meantime, the teenager had been hopeful that it could even work out for the 2024 season. But then all the places were taken in the fall because Pramac opted for Franco Morbidelli and VR46 for Fabio Di Giannantonio
These two riders – Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio – will line up as teammates for VR46-Ducati in the 2025 MotoGP season. Valentino Rossi’s racing team announced the extension of its collaboration with Ducati “for several years” on Friday morning in Silverstone. As part of the new contract, the team will receive a works bike for 2025. This will be ridden by Di Giannantonio.
Neither Di Giannantonio’s contract extension with VR46 nor Morbidelli’s switch from Pramac to VR46 have been officially announced yet. However, Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi revealed both VR46 riders to French TV channel Canal+ on Friday.
Neither Di Giannantonio nor Morbidelli is a surprise after the developments of recent weeks. And it was also foreseeable that Aldeguer would end up at Gresini, as it was the last vacant position in a Ducati team for 2025. The Pramac team is switching from Ducati to Yamaha this winter
