Mattia Casadei rides to his first win of the season in wet Silverstone, while Randy Krummenacher crashes through no fault of his own shortly after the start
Mattia Casadei claimed the second MotoE race at Silverstone to celebrate his first win of the season. The Pons rider took the lead right at the start and maintained it over six rain-soaked laps.
Pole setter Eric Granado (LCR) had to settle for second place. Third place went to Casadei’s team-mate Nicolas Spinelli. The winner of the first race, Randy Krummenacher (IntactGP), crashed right at the beginning through no fault of his own and retired.
In similar adverse conditions as in race 1, Krummenacher was involved in an early incident in turn 1. It was Matteo Ferrari (Gresini) who crashed into the inside and knocked Kevin Zannoni (SIC58) off the track. He in turn hit Krummenacher on the outside. Both crashed.
Race control announced an investigation into the incident. Alessandro Zaccone (Tech 3) and Tito Rabat (Pramac) also went down on the first lap.
Casadei did not notice much of this at the front. He led the field ahead of Granado and Hector Garzo (IntactGP). This order did not change for a long time. Halfway through the race, the top two were visibly distancing themselves from the chasers.
In the penultimate lap Granado dared to attack Casadei, but Casadei passed him immediately and was then able to open up a decisive gap. Behind him, the fight for the last place on the podium went on until the end. The final lap proved to be particularly costly for Garzo.
While the IntactGP rider was still in third place at the beginning of the last lap, he fell back behind Spinelli as well as World Championship leader Jordi Torres (Aspar) and Ferrari. Garzo finished sixth, but moved up one position after the race as the stewards handed out a penalty to Ferrari

The Gresini rider received a time penalty of three seconds on his race result. This dropped him from fifth to seventh still behind Andrea Mantovani (RNF).
Hikari Okubo (Tech 3), Kevin Manfredi (SIC58) and Mika Perez (RNF) completed the top 10. In total, only 13 riders saw the chequered flag in the second race. In addition to the crash victims from round one, Miquel Pons (LCR) also crashed out.
In the World Championship, Torres maintains his lead over Ferrari with 15 points. Krummenacher lost another position due to his zero and dropped back to fourth behind Casadei. Garzo also lost a place and is fifth.
