MotoE Mugello 2022: Dominique Aegerter takes second win of season

UPDATE: Dominique Aegerter wins Saturday’s MotoE race at the Italian Grand Prix – Swiss rider extends World Cup lead

Second MotoE season win in a row! After Dominique Aegerter (IntactGP) won the second race in Le Mans, the Swiss also won the first race in Mugello. Aegerter took the win in Italy ahead of Matteo Ferrari (Gresini) and Andrea Mantovani (RNF) (race result).

UPDATE, 19:35: Mantovani was retroactively disqualified because the tyre pressure of his electric motorbike was below the prescribed limit.

The race was shortened from six to five laps. Because of the raindrops, it was declared a rain race. Nevertheless, everyone started with slicks, as the track was dry. Until “San Donato” pole setter Aegerter was out-accelerated by two riders.

Kevin Zannoni (SIC58) took the lead ahead of Ferrari and Aegerter. The Swiss also lost a position to Niccolo Canepa (RNF) in the first few corners, making it an Italian triple lead.

But in “Scarperia” there was suddenly chaos and Aegerter was in the lead at the end of the first lap. Eric Granado (LCR) got into position and overtook Aegerter on lap two. Behind the duo, Ferrari maintained third place and stayed on.

On lap 3, Aegerter attacked Granado and took the lead again. But the slipstream played a big role on the long straight – comparable to Moto3. Aegerter was overtaken by Ferrari, Marc Alcoba (Aspar) and Granado. One lap later it turned around.

Aegerter took advantage of the slipstream and braked his way into the inside of “San Donato” and back into the front. With that, the Swiss started the last lap at the front. As a result, Aegerter remained faultless and did not allow any attack from Ferrari.

The Swiss turned into the home straight with a few metres to spare. That was enough! Aegerter crossed the finish line 0.033 seconds ahead of Ferrari and celebrated his second MotoE season victory. “Fantastic to have won again,” cheered Aegerter.

“I think I’ve won a total of seven in a row now, five Supersport races and two MotoE races. That’s incredible, of course, but it wasn’t easy today. There was drizzle on the grid. “

“But five minutes before the start we were suddenly told to go for slicks. We didn’t know exactly how wet the track would be. On the last lap I managed an attack and scored 25 points again. Today the pulse did go up quite a bit.”

Granado narrowly missed the podium on the track in fourth. As a result, Aegerter initially increased his lead over the Brazilian in the World Cup to 20 points. After Mantovani’s disqualification and Granado’s move up to P3, it’s 17 points.
