Matteo Ferrari and Mattia Casadei deliver a thrilling final duel in the last MotoE race – Dominique Aegerter narrowly misses the podium
Matteo Ferrari has won the final race of the 2022 MotoE season. The Gresini rider prevailed in a duel with the winner of Saturday’s race, Mattia Casadei (Pons) on the final lap to secure his second win of the season after Mugello. Third was Eric Granado (LCR).
Dominique Aegerter (IntactGP), who was crowned MotoE champion yesterday, just missed the podium in fourth. He was separated from third place by 0.419 seconds.
The start of the eight laps was decided by Casadei, who passed pole setter Aegerter and entered the first corner in the lead. Aegerter held on to second, Granado was third but had to let go a little in the first half of the race.

Aegerter was initially the only one who could follow Casadei. At the end of the fifth lap, the Swiss started an attack and went past in turn 14. But in the very next lap Casadei took back the lead. Aegerter tried to keep up, but came under increasing pressure from behind.
Because Granado had caught up again. And Ferrari were also on the move after a mixed start and were gradually making up positions.

The last lap started for Aegerter with a mistake that threw him down to fourth and off the podium. The battle for victory was decided between Casadei and Ferrari. Three corners before the end of the race, Ferrari launched an attack and went past.
A counter-attack by Casadei in the final bend failed, as Ferrari had the better acceleration. At the finish, the two were separated by barely two tenths. The top four were within just one second. Jordi Torres (Pons), last year’s MotoE champion, finished fifth.
Niccolo Canepa (RNF) led the second half of the top 10 ahead of Miquel Pons (LCR), Alex Escrig (Tech 3), Hikari Okubo (Ajo) and Kevin Zannoni (SIC58). In the overall standings, Aegerter won in the end with 34.5 points ahead of Granado. Ferrari (-64.5) was third overall, Casadei (-71) fourth.
The MotoE season finale in Misano was also the last race with Energica machines. From 2023, Ducati will take over and become the sole supplier of the electric series.
