Moto3 test in Portimao: Vice World Champion Dennis Foggia fastest

Three days of testing for the Moto3 class in Portimao – 18 riders are in a second at the end of the test – returnee Ana Carrasco in last place

There was an official winter test for the Moto3 class. This took place from Saturday to Monday at the Portimao circuit in Portugal. On these three days there were optimal weather conditions and the teams could prepare in peace.

Some racing teams had already completed private tests in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) beforehand. All the riders took part in the official Portimao tests. The track was shared with Moto2. The two classes took it in turns to use the track.

Vice world champion Dennis Foggia sits on a Honda of the Leopard team again this year. At the beginning of the weekend, the Italian had stomach pains, which is why he missed the first day and a half. But in the end Foggia showed his speed. With 1:46.990 minutes he broke the lap record.

Andrea Migno provided a Honda one-two. Top talent Izan Guevara was third on the GasGas. While it was windy on Saturday, conditions improved on Sunday. However, there were a few incidents on the second day.

Deniz Öncü crashed off his KTM, causing his new Tech 3 teammate Adrian Fernandez to fall as well. Öncü had pain in his foot. However, an X-ray revealed no broken bones.

Elia Bartolini (KTM), Jaume Masia (KTM), John McPhee (Husqvarna) and Guevara also had slips on Sunday. All of them remained unhurt. On Monday, most of the teams were still riding in the first two sessions, but in the evening hardly anyone was on the road.

The PrüstelGP team from Saxony competes this season with Xavier Artigas and Carlos Tatay. They represent the colours of CFMoto. Technically, it is a KTM. Both were not to be found in the top 10 with their fastest lap times.

With Ana Carrasco, the 2018 Supersport 300 World Champion returns to the Grand Prix scene. The Spaniard already raced in the Moto3 class from 2013 to 2015. The changeover was still difficult for her, as she finished last.

Riders from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are not competing in Moto3 this year. The first race will take place on 6 March at the Losail Circuit in Qatar,
