Moto3’s first free practice session at Silverstone ends with a best time from current World Championship leader Garcia – but a Honda duo are hot on his heels
Moto3 World Championship leader Sergio Garcia has returned from the summer break with a fastest time. The GasGas rider topped the first Free Practice session at Silverstone on Friday morning with a time of 2’12.868.
Honda riders Dennis Foggia (+0.041 seconds) and Lorenzo Fellon (+0.061 seconds) were close behind in second and third.
KTM rider Deniz Öncü finished a good tenth of a second behind in fourth place. Fellow brand Ryusei Yamanaka completed the top five, followed by Kaito Toba (KTM), Izan Guevara (GasGas), Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna), Diogo Morereira (KTM) and John McPhee (Husqvarna).

A total of 18 riders were within one second of each other at the end. There were no major incidents during the 40-minute practice session.
Two Moto3 regulars missing at Silverstone due to injury. KTM rider Joel Kelso will be replaced by Marc Garcia. Nicola Fabio Carraro will step in for Matteo Bertelle, also KTM. Bertelle sits out the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
