Relatively large time gaps in the first Austin practice of the Moto3 class – With Andrea Migno and Dennis Foggia, two Honda riders are in front – PrüstelGP duo in the top 5
The Moto3 class is running exceptionally after Moto2 and MotoGP at the US Grand Prix. In the final time chase at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas, two veterans took the lead. Andrea Migno set the fastest lap with 2:16.241 minutes. Runner-up Dennis Foggia followed 0.382 seconds behind in second.
On the 5.5 kilometre track, the time gaps were bigger than usual, especially in the smallest class. Only eight riders were within one second. In addition, slipstreaming plays a big role on the 1.2-kilometre back straight.
Behind the two Honda riders Migno and Foggia followed Carlos Tatay (CFMoto), the first rider from PrüstelGP. It was generally a good start for the German team, with Xavier Artigas finishing fifth. In between was Jaume Masia (KTM).
With the sixth fastest time Diogo Moreira (KTM) once again put himself in the limelight. He was followed by Daniel Holgado (KTM), the GasGas duo Izan Guevara and Sergio Garcia and Stefano Nepa (KTM) (see result).
Ana Carrasco (KTM) was also behind on this track and only finished 28th. It was almost a smooth practice without any incidents. Only after the chequered flag fell did Alberto Surra (Honda) crash in turn 18 and Elia Bartolini (KTM) in turn 2.
John McPhee will also have to miss this weekend due to the vertebral injury he sustained in a training accident after Qatar. The Max Racing team has nominated David Salvador as a substitute rider.
The second Moto3 practice session starts at 22:10 CEST.
