Moto3 FT1 Argentina: Dirty track, but finally riding

Moto3 rookie Dennis Foggia sets fastest lap in morning practice – Track is being ridden clean – Many riders have to learn Termas layout

Riding at Termas de Rio Hondo (Argentina) got underway on Saturday according to the new schedule. The Moto3 class opened the day at 8:15am local time (13:15 CET) with the first free practice session, which was extended to 50 minutes

As expected, the track was still dirty in the morning. Nevertheless, the riders in the smallest class did their laps diligently right from the start. The majority of the riders also had to get to know the track first, as Argentina was visited for the last time in 2019.

For a long time, the lap times were around two seconds above the existing records. It was only in the last quarter of an hour that the chase for times opened up. In the end, experience prevailed as Moto3 rookie Dennis Foggia (Honda) marked the fastest time at the end.

The reigning runner-up was clocked at 1:49.268. This left Foggia only about half a second short of the lap record. Izan Guevara (GasGas) was a tenth of a second behind in second.

Rookie Diogo Moreira (KTM) set the scene with the third fastest time. The same was true for Daniel Holgado (KTM) in fifth. Kaito Toba (KTM) was among the front runners in fourth place. In general, the time gaps were relatively large. Only eleven riders were within one second (to the result).

Places six to ten went to Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda), Deniz Öncü (KTM), Jaume Masia (KTM), Ryusei Yamanaka (KTM) and Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna). PrüstelGP was not among the front runners. Carlos Tatay was 18th and Xavier Artigas 24th.

The only incident in this practice was caused by Matteo Bertelle. The Italian slipped in turn 1 in the opening phase. Nothing happened. The KTM rider was able to continue the session.

The second Moto3 practice session starts at 15:25 CET. Qualifying is scheduled from 18:50 CET onwards.
