Aron Canet narrowly prevails over Augusto Fernandez and Sam Lowes in the first Moto2 practice session in Barcelona – Marcel Schrötter seventh for the opener
Aron Canet dominated the first Moto2 free practice session in Barcelona. The Kalex rider took the lead early on and only had to relinquish it once briefly to Augusto Fernandez, but pushed him back into second place with a best time of 1’44.450. In the end, the two were separated by just 24 thousandths.
Jake Dixon was also just 79 thousandths behind in third. Sam Lowes finished fourth. Behind them were Bo Bendsneyder and Albert Arenas. Marcel Schrötter was seventh. He was just under three tenths of a second off the best time of the session.
Pedro Acosta, who celebrated his first Moto2 victory a week ago in Mugello, started his home GP weekend in eighth place. Alonso Lopez in ninth was the only Boscoscuro rider to make the top 10, which was completed by Ai Ogura.

WM leader Celestino Vietti finished the session in twelfth place, 0.521 seconds behind. Joe Roberts, second at Mugello, finished twelfth. A total of 18 riders were within one second of each other. Somkiat Chantra was last in the time slot, 0.974 seconds behind.
Two regular riders are missing in Barcelona due to injury: Gabriel Rodrigo is replaced by Alex Toldeo; Stefano Manzi steps in for Keminth Kubo for the third time in a row. With Piotr Biesiekirski, the SAG team also has a wildcard rider on the grid.
