Moment of shock in the battle of the giants

Jon Moxley defends his AEW World Title against Cope on AEW Dynamite. After chaos in the ring, Moxley secures the win with help from Nick Wayne.

Jon Moxley remains AEW World Champion – and has once again lived up to his reputation as the pain man of the wrestling world.

On the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, former WWE’s Dean Ambrose defended his title in a no-holds-barred Street Fight against Cope, aka Edge. The match escalated with an ultra-violent move at the end – and took a lot of chaotic turns after that.

AEW Dynamite: Jon Moxley takes an ultra-violent move

Known for his brutal style, Moxley got a taste of his own medicine at the hands of Cope late in the match when Cope suplexed Moxley onto a metal spike drumstick.

The object remained stuck in Moxley’s back for several seconds before his ally Wheeler Yuta and the referee removed it, leaving a gaping, bloody wound. Moxley once again proved his will to push himself beyond the pain barrier in matches.

Cope was unable to capitalize on the key moment by winning because first Yuta and then the rest of the Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli and Pac) showed up and took it over. Although Cope was joined by his own buddies FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler), Marina Shafir prevented a possible pinfall by Cope when he followed up with a spear.

Shafir was then neutralized by rival Willow Nightingale, but the rest was given to Cope by Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian of the Patriarchy, the faction of his eternal companion Christian Cage, who had recently thrown himself into the title race in vain at Revolution. Moxley won in the end with a Bulldog Choke – and more events followed that made people sit up and take notice.

Tensions between Cope and Dax Harwood

As Moxley and the Death Riders cleared, tensions between Cope and FTR, namely Dax Harwood, were revealed.

Harwood refused to help Cope up and left the ring angrily – hinting at a heel turn and a rift between Cope and FTR. Perhaps the scene is a seed for the alleged long-term plan of a reunion between Cope and Cage and a dream match against FTR.

Three matches have already been set for the next major Dynasty event after Dynamite: Moxley will now be challenged by Swerve Strickland, while Women’s Champion Toni Storm picked out the recently signed Megan Bayne as her next opponent at the end of the show – Bayne picked up a win over Kris Statlander in the Dynamite main event.

Meanwhile, International Champion Kenny Omega will face off against newcomer “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Ricochet in a three-way battle, while the opening match saw him emerge victorious from a four-way battle with Mark Davis and Orange Cassidy, who were pinned simultaneously by the two winners.
