In the 1:4 in Augsburg, he was finally allowed to breathe more than just a few minutes of Bundesliga air. But Stuttgart’s Clinton Mola is already facing the bench again against Bielefeld.
The fact that the left-footer, who joined Stuttgart from Chelsea FC in January 2020, was unable to prevent the 1:4 defeat in Bavariahas less to do with that. “Clinton is a super boy, was always very close, trains super and would have long deserved a chance to play,” says sports director Sven Mislintat, who attests to the British player’s talent. But Mola hasn’t really been able to underline that so far. Not only because of the competition. In the 2020/21 season, an arthrosis in the hip area slowed him down for months.
The now 20-year-old proved in his first half-year in the VfB jersey in the 2nd division that he can definitely lay claim to a starting place with eight appearances and a decent. Then came the injury. In the meantime Mola is back and fully fit. In Augsburg, he fought back diligently against Augsburg and would definitely have deserved another chance now against Bielefeld, especially as Marc Oliver Kempf (hardening of the thigh), for whom he was substituted, and Konstantinos Mavropanos (torn muscle fibre in the thigh) are still in danger of being out.
Karazor has served suspension
However, Atakan Karazor, an experienced defender, is pushing his way back into the starting line-up. The former Bochum man has served his yellow-red suspension and should be predestined to take over the centre of defence in tandem with Hiroki Ito on the left and Waldemar Anton on the right. Mola must hope Karazor’s services are more in demand in defensive midfield.
