Modeste’s Schadenfreude wegen Schmadtke: “Schön, Wolfsburg in die Krise zu schicken”

Anthony Modeste particularly enjoyed his lucky punch after the win against Wolfsburg. The Frenchman lashed out at Cologne’s former sporting director after the game.

Schmadtke was FC’s sporting director between 2013 and 2017, Modeste moved to the Geißböcken from Hoffenheim in 2015. After a decent (15/16 season; 15 goals) and a strong (16/17; 25 goals) season, the Frenchman was first loaned to China and then also sold there – during this time, there was also a rift between the now 33-year-old and Schmadtke, who has since joined VfL.

In the summer of 2017, there was a transfer controversy surrounding Modeste: back then, it was one statement against another about a failed transfer to Tianjin Quanjian, but a few days later, after endless confusion between advisor, player and club, FC finally loaned the Frenchman to the aforementioned club in China.

“You always meet twice in life “

After FC’s 3-2 win over Wolfe, the sixth defeat in a row for the Lower Saxons, double-pointer Modeste was therefore not only happy about his team’s victory – but also about his personal one: “You always meet twice in life. It’s nice to win here and send Wolfsburg into crisis,” the attacker told “Sportschau”.

On the “Sky” microphone he then specified once more: “I am happy because we sent Jörg Schmadtke’s team into crisis”. So it seems as if there were still some scores to settle, which the Frenchman, who has already scored ten goals in the league this season, has settled in his own way.
