Mitch Evans grumbles about Nyck de Vries’ pace after Sunday’s Formula E race in New York. The latter had poked into the inside of turn 10, which is why there was first contact between the Dutchman and Evans and then also contact between the New Zealander and Alexander Sims. Evans was pissed off and called it a “stupid manoeuvre”.
Evans was ultimately classified third after an eventful race, while Sims, who nearly spun in the incident, crossed the finish line behind in fourth. De Vries ultimately finished seventh. According to Evans, Sims had already been “defending hard” before the incident, with the Briton – in the Jaguar driver’s opinion – struggling with battery or power problems.
“He then blocked very hard in turn 10,” Evans summed up. “Nyck made a very late decision to try to overtake, which nearly took me and Alexander out of the race. It was a completely stupid manoeuvre. I know he was told to go for it, but I don’t think it was a great move. “
After that, Evans chased the Dutchman and almost lost control of his car on a bump at turn 6. A strong manoeuvre saved him.
“I caught the pothole in the braking zone, so I was really lucky to have got away with it,” he said. “I nearly shit my trousers there, had massive brake patches on the tyres and tried to pull myself together. I ended up overtaking Alexander, but I think we could have won.”
Evans is third in the overall standings with 139 points after the double-header in New York. Stoffel Vandoorne (155 points) and Edoardo Mortara (144 points) are ahead of him. When asked about a title favourite, he told ‘Ran.co.uk’: “You’re looking at him! No, but it’s still all very close and we still have four races to go.
