In spite of the recent debates about Hitzlsperger’s successor, Sven Mislintat has made a clear commitment to VfB Stuttgart – and expressed a wish.
Thomas Hitzlsperger will leave VfB in autumn 2022 at the latest. However, Stuttgart fans need not fear that Sven Mislintat will also be leaving soon.
“I’m staying,” the sporting director confirmed on “Sky90” on Sunday. “I am here because this club is fantastic. When I see the team and the daily work in this group, what kind of dynamic we have there, then I’m just fully committed and respect my contract one hundred per cent.” This is still valid until 2023.
“It’s quite clear that we would like to know what’s happening “
The question of who will succeed Hitzlsperger has recently been a source of unrest at VfB. While the search for a new head of the board of directors is leading to Alexander Wehrle, Mislintat had called for an internal solution when filling the – additional – position of sports director and criticised the supervisory board in the process.
On Thursday, it became known that the board has now shelved an external solution – which is likely to be in Mislintat’s interest. On Sunday, he once again expressed his desire for a “clear commitment”, “by being strengthened in what we are doing”. He is keen to continue on the path he has taken, “which has a clear concept and philosophy and which has revitalised the identity of this club”.
“It is quite clear that we would like to know what is happening,” Mislintat said. At the moment, however, there are “no clear statements” about this, but “continue to have an open discussion.”
