Michel and Platte give Paderborn the next win

Sc Paderborn have bagged the next three points. On Saturday afternoon, the East-Westphalians defeated FC Ingolstadt 2-1 in an entertaining match and celebrated their seventh win of the season. However, the game could have taken a completely different course

When it was over, as referee Bastian Dankert blew the whistle for the game at Paderborn’s Benteler Arena, Andre Schubert called his players together in a circle once more. The words of praise that Ingolstadt’s coach addressed to his team must have been quite praiseworthy.

The Schanzers had played a good away game, they had created a number of the best scoring chances – but in the end they had to admit defeat once again. The tenth defeat, a bitter 1:2, which frustrated Ingolstadt, but at the same time gave them courage.

FCI with Kotzke, Beister and Kutschke

After the 0:3 against Regensburg Schubert had changed his starting line-up in three positions. Kotzke, Beister and Kutschke replaced Röseler, Röhl and Kaya. Paderborn coach Lukas Kwasniok had brought on Yalcin and Pröger in place of Mehlem and Ofori compared to the 4:2 in Karlsruhe and used the word spectacle at the pre-match press conference.

In fact, it was quite entertaining what the 6625 spectators got to see. Both teams created good scoring chances, but failed to take advantage of them in the first half. While Michel (8th, 9th) and Pröger (14th, 22nd) missed for the SCP, it was Kutschke (9th) and Beister (15th, 31st) who were unsuccessful on the other side. But: FCI played bravely and got off to the better start after the break.

Kutschke fails from the point against Huth

Not even ten minutes had been played when Ingolstadt were awarded a penalty. After a foul by van der Werff on Beister, Kutschke stepped up but found his master in Huth (47.). A little later Beister scored a wonderful goal, but Kutschke had been offside shortly before (52.). The team at the bottom of the table was on top – and then conceded two goals: First Michel scored with a wonderful individual action (56th), then Platte stuck his foot into a low cross from Schuster (65th).

Ingolstadt came back immediately with a shot from distance by substitute Kaya (70th), but it was not enough to make it 2:2. Paderborn celebrated their next victory, FCI suffered defeat number ten. After the international break, SCP will be at home to Hannover on Friday evening, while Ingolstadt will host Karlsruher SC on Sunday.
