According to media reports, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather are planning a rematch. Huge sums are being traded. Mayweather won the first duel about five years ago.
It was one of the biggest fights of all time – at least in terms of spectator and media interest: In 2017, boxer Floyd Mayweather and UFC fighter Conor McGregor met in the ring.
The fights were fought with fists only, a circumstance that admittedly benefited Mayweather. And so it was no surprise that the US American won the fight.
Five years later, McGregor could get his revenge. According to information from Fight Hype, the two superstars of the fight scene are planning a spectacular refight.
Mayweather to collect nine-figure sum
Mayweather alone is set to collect a nine-figure sum, analogous to 2017, when around 275 million dollars flowed into his coffers. McGregor came to 85 million.
That the fight could actually happen was fuelled by the Irishman’s Instagram post, which featured a picture of the past fight, captioned with the words, “I accept”.
But the post has since been deleted – still proving McGregor is fired up for a possible fight. In 2017, he had lost by technical knockout in round ten. Mayweather ended his career undefeated.
In June this year, the 45-year-old announced his return to the ring. He wants to fight the Japanese MMA fighter Mikura Asakura in September.
