The prestigious tournament in Indian Wells will not see a duel between the great rivals.
Iga Swiatek has surprisingly missed the chance to defend her title at the WTA tournament in Indian Wells. The world number two from Poland was beaten 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 3-6 by 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreyeva in the semi-finals of the high-profile event. Swiatek could have become the first woman ever to win her third title in the California desert.
Andreyeva will now face world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final, who won her semi-final in commanding fashion. In the repeat of the Australian Open final, the 26-year-old from Belarus gave the American Madison Keys no chance, beating her 6-0, 6-1 to get revenge on a smaller stage for the missed Grand Slam title in January.
