When ESPN announced their All-Time T20 International Cricket XI, there were plenty of the household names that you would expect to see from over the years. The likes of Chris Gail and Dwayne Bravo might have been expected but not so much young Rashid Khan. The team covered cricket players from across the world over the last 25 years, so for a player so young to get into the selected team is a real statement.
The Afghan spinner is an icon in his country, leading the way for youngsters to follow in his footsteps. It has been a far from easy journey, particularly given that his home nation of Afghanistan has been war-torn for so long now. Khan is an example of how a bright light can still shine even through the darkness that the Afghan population have lived in for all of this time.
Khan breaking records
Aged only 19, Khan has a long and great future ahead of him if everything continues to go to plan. Earlier this year, the talented bowler ranked top in the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in One Day Internationals, becoming the youngest player to ever do so.
He followed that achievement up with topping the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in Twenty20 Internationals. It is turning out to be quite a year for the youngster, as he then went on to captain his country, again becoming the youngest player to ever captain an international team (at 19 years and 165 days).
The future looks bright for Rashid Khan
Last month he broke the records again, becoming the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in T20Is, which he managed in two years and 220 days. It looks like there will be a lot of records that this young star will be ripping up, as a new cricketing legend is born. The future looks incredibly bright for Rashid Khan, so watch this space! He could go on to become the best bowler of all time!
