Medvedev beats veteran Murray at Miami tournament

Miami – Daniil Medvedev has clearly won the duel of two former tennis world number one against Andy Murray at the tournament in Miami.

The top-seeded Russian won 6:4, 6:2 against the 34-year-old Scot, who is not back to his former form after a long injury break. After a walk-through at the start, Medvedev is now in the third round thanks to the straightforward victory in Florida.

The 26-year-old replaced Novak Djokovic at the top of the world rankings only a few weeks ago. However, Medvedev’s early exit from the tournament in Indian Wells meant that he immediately lost his top position. Should he reach the semi-finals in Miami, he would return to first place, which is now occupied by Djokovic again. The Serb could not compete in the two major hard court tournaments in the USA due to his lack of vaccination against the corona virus.

Medvedev is the number one seed in Miami ahead of Alexander Zverev. The Hamburg native will face American Mackenzie McDonald in the third round on Monday night.
