MBC chase uncrowned – Bryant at 5000 – Bamberg wins derby in Bayreuth

The fifth Bonn victory in a row was a hard-fought one at the end. Bamberg showed its best side in the derby win in Bayreuth. Giessen was also jubilant.

Leaders Telekom Baskets Bonn celebrated their fifth win in a row in the BBL. Coach Tuomas Iisalo’s team won 90-85 (66-38) at Syntainics MBC Weißenfels on Saturday despite a weak second half and extended their lead over chaser Bayern Munich (36-12) with 40-14 points, but they have three games in hand.

The MBC won the final quarter 23:5 (!) and John Bryant (3) broke the milestone of 5000 points in the BBL. The best scorer of the match was Bonn’s Jeremy Morgan with 25 points. The Bavarians are challenged on Sunday (15.00/MagentaSport) against the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim.

In the Upper Franconian prestige duel, Brose Bamberg clearly kept the upper hand with 84:71 at medi Bayreuth and drew level on wins (both eleven) with the Wagnerstadters, who have also played two games more. The two former champions will probably only be able to reach the Top 8 and thus the play-offs this season with a strong final spurt.

Gießen leave last place with win against Oldenburg

The Jobstairs Giessen 46ers picked up two important points in the fight to stay in the relegation zone later in the evening. The Hessians defeated EWE Baskets Oldenburg 88:75 (34:40) and moved past Frankfurt into penultimate place in the table after their sixth win of the season.

After the hosts had committed eleven ball losses in the first half, they acted more concentrated after the break. The Giessen team dominated the third quarter with 32:23. In the final period, the Hessians quickly extended their lead into double figures.

The Hamburg Towers scored a clear 100:76 (53:31) victory at the MLP Academics Heidelberg. The guests dominated the first quarter with 33:13.
