This season’s F1 isn’t going to plan for Max Verstappen, after a number of crashes on the racetrack have left him reeling. However, in a recent press conference Verstappen informed reporters that he is not concerned about the number of crashes he has had recently. In fact, he would be more concerned if he was not driving fast, as he says that this is a much harder problem to fix.
The Red Bull driver heads into this weekend’s Gran Prix Heineken du Canada 2018 in Montreal looking to get the result that will make a real statement to his rivals and even his own team. The Red Bull team have expressed their concern over his recent performances and have even suggested that he should change his ‘over-aggressive’ approach. This kind of advice does not appear to be welcomed by their 20-year old driver, who responded by stating that he will never change his approach. He is certainly giving a defiant front but can he really afford any more race disasters?

This weekend he is back to the scene of where it all started to go wrong for him. A mechanical fault at the Canada Grand Prix 2017 caused him to retire from the race when he was putting Hamilton through his paces and the front of the pack. He has not managed to win a race this season and has been involved in 5 crashes – missing out of qualifying at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Showing signs of anger at the media
Whilst he tells the media that he is happy with his driving, it seems that the constant questions about his ability and driving style has hit a nerve. At the Montreal press conference earlier this week he became visibly agitated and jokingly said he would head-butt the next reporter to ask him a similar question!
This will only add fuel to the fire, drawing more attention to himself and should he stutter on the racetrack this weekend, he can expect more scrutiny from across the world of Formula 1. Alternatively, he can take all of this pressure and use it to power himself onto the podium at the Canada Grand Prix.
