Max Verstappen: Brazil trophy won’t be going in the Red Bull cabinet

Max Verstappen usually hands in his winner’s trophies to Red Bull Racing, but he kept the one he won after the gala performance in Brazil in 2024

With 63 Grand Prix victories to his name so far, Max Verstappen is currently ranked third in the all-time Formula 1 winners’ list, only surpassed by Lewis Hamilton (105) and Michael Schumacher (91). But only a few of the original winner’s trophies are at home with him, because according to his contract, all the trophies “that I win at the track actually go to the team”.

At Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes, there is an impressive trophy cabinet that also contains many of Verstappen’s winning trophies. As a driver, you usually only get a replica of the original. Verstappen has only collected one trophy, “and that was from this year in Brazil. I kept it then,” he says in an interview with ServusTV.

As part of the year-end show of Red Bull’s in-house channel, the four-time world champion talked about many topics, ranging from his road to the title to the problems with car development and his upcoming fatherhood.

In 2025, Verstappen has the chance to become world champion for the fifth time in a row. This is something that Sebastian Vettel was unable to achieve after his world championship titles with Red Bull (2010 to 2013). Incidentally, he is still in contact with Vettel: “We write a little after almost every race. Sebastian is very nice. I like him a lot.”

But Verstappen’s review of 2024 is not all positive. After a successful start to the season, Red Bull fell behind in technical development, and it was noticeable on the pit radio that Verstappen was becoming impatient. Tensions between him and race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase reached a peak at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

“You can’t shout internally,” Verstappen knows, and admits: ‘Of course, there was a race, in Hungary, where I did that. But after that, we sat together a lot and talked a lot. And from then on, we actually all worked together and got the best out of it again.’
