Mason Greenwood removed from FIFA 22 after arrest

Mason Greenwood has been removed from FIFA 22 after his arrest on Tuesday, facing charges including assault.

In an Instagram video, the Englishman’s girlfriend had gone public on Sunday morning. In addition to a bleeding wound on her face, several bruises could be seen. The video was supplemented by an audio recording of a male voice threatening her with violence.

“For anyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood is doing to me right now,” the 20-year-old wrote. The relevant police authorities investigated swiftly and arrested the England international striker the same day. His club Manchester United also reacted and suspended Greenwood “until further notice”.

No longer playable in offline modes

The 20-year-old’s alleged misconduct also has virtual consequences: EA SPORTS began removing the offensive man from FIFA 22 on Tuesday. After the first step, Greenwood is no longer playable in the offline modes. At kick-off, for example, he is no longer in the United line-up with the live squads.

The developer is likely to take the same measures for the online modes – first and foremost FUT. In Ultimate Team, however, EA SPORTS can only remove Greenwood from the packs and the drafts, as it did with Benjamin Mendy. Items already owned belong to the players, they cannot be removed.

Fast EA reaction in FUT?

It can consequently be assumed that some traders will impiously use the opportunity for their own enrichment. Playing with the prices of FUT cards about to be removed has become almost a tradition. It is to be hoped that EA SPORTS will quickly put a stop to this and fix the price range.
