Helmut Marko plays down the importance of the presentation of the Red Bull RB18: Car will be ready later, no special details
On Wednesday at 5pm Red Bull will unveil its new car for the 2022 Formula 1 season, but fans cannot expect to see the finished car at the event, as motorsport consultant Helmut Marko announces: “The presentation, which is important for fans and sponsors, does not yet show any special details on the car,” says the Austrian
This means that, as with Haas last week, Red Bull will only present the RB18 in its basic design, which, however, is to change significantly once again: “The new car will only be ready shortly before the start of testing in Barcelona on 23 February. From then on it will be further developed and will receive another update for the first race of the season on 20 March in Bahrain.”
The reason for this is simple: Red Bull naturally doesn’t want to show the competition too much yet with the new regulations and also still use the time to develop the car as long as possible. “Due to the new rules, everyone wants to be ready as late as possible – also in order not to show everything too early,” Marko said.
Max Verstappen enters the new season as world champion with the starting number 1. His team-mate remains Mexican Sergio Perez.
