Wimbledon surprise Tatjana Maria and her husband Charles-Edouard want to model certain values for their eight-year-old daughter for a possible career as a tennis player.
“We like a family atmosphere, that’s important to us when we work with people. We want Charlotte to know that it’s the human aspect that counts,” Frenchman Charles-Edouard Maria told the Süddeutsche Zeitung. “Many, when they play on the tour, change their environment from here to there and there. We want the balance to be right when she grows up and develops as a player.”
The 34-year-old Tatjana Maria is in the semi-finals for the first time in her career at the grass-court classic today and will face world number two Ons Jabeur of Tunisia. Charlotte, the elder of two daughters, also plays tennis. At Wimbledon, the eight-year-old usually trains at half past eight in the morning. She is under contract to a sporting goods company that sponsors her with tennis clothes. “She is really talented,” said Charles-Edouard Maria, who also coaches Tatjana Maria.
