In his first Moto2 race since 2022, Marcel Schrötter finishes in P18 – He speaks of a “solid debut” and looks ahead to the Sachsenring
For Marcel Schrötter, the race weekend in Assen was the first of two detours into Moto2, where the German will also replace the injured Deniz Öncü next weekend at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring
In Assen, Schrötter finished the Moto2 race in 18th place after qualifying 22nd. He was a good ten seconds off the points.
“As far as the result goes, it was nothing special,” admitted the 31-year-old. “Nevertheless, I think I delivered a solid race. The pace was definitely okay, about the same as the riders in the last places in the points.”
“The problem was simply the first few laps, because when you start further back in the field, big gaps open up immediately. On top of that, one or two other riders were very serious about not wanting to have a reserve rider in front of them. The battles for position were correspondingly tough.”
“Although I was clearly faster than one or two of the others,” emphasized Schrötter, “a gap opened up after two or three laps and I simply didn’t have the pace to catch up with the group. I was able to close the gap to Izan Guevara and overtake him, but that was the maximum today.”
Nevertheless, the German sees his first Moto2 race since the 2022 season finale in Valencia as a “solid debut”. He knows: “It’s damn hard to get back into this category. The level in Moto2 is incredibly high.”
“But we didn’t make any mistakes and were able to gather good information that will help both the team and Kalex. I definitely enjoyed it and I’m looking forward even more to next week at the Sachsenring. Things will look a little different there from the start.”
Schrötter has been a regular rider in the Supersport World Championship since 2023, where he finished third overall as a rookie. He has already finished on the podium four times this season
