Marcel Schrötter: Strong performance at private Moto2 test in Jerez

Intact rider Marcel Schrötter rides to third place at the private Moto2 test in Jerez: After the winter break, the German is quickly building up a good feeling

Moto2 rookie Marcel Schrötter completed the first test of the year this week. The Intact team shared the Jerez circuit with a number of other Moto2 and Moto3 teams and gained important experience ahead of the official IRTA test in Portimao. Schrötter ended up in third position. The best time went to Somkiat Chantra, who was just quicker than teammate Ai Ogura.

Schrötter was 0.266 seconds behind in third place. At the Jerez test, the German worked with crew chief Fausto Bencivenni, who joined the Intact team last winter.

“I am very happy with our first two days of testing in the new year,” Schrötter summed up. “I think it was generally even one of the better tests we had in Jerez as preparation for the season. “

Marcel Schrötter quickly finds his feeling for the Kalex again

“After two and a half months I was able to quickly build up a good feeling again and also set lap times that were generally okay. But we also know that we have to improve, because if there had been more riders we would definitely have seen faster lap times,” Schrötter is under no illusions.

“Nevertheless, we did a good job on our first two days after the winter break. For me it was also my first time on a circuit again with a race bike, as I have trained almost exclusively with off-road bikes this winter. But I am very happy, because the feeling for the new bike is already quite good,” Schrötter reports.

“Furthermore, this test was a successful debut as far as the cooperation with my new crew chief Fausto is concerned,” explains the Intact rider. “We tried out many changes to the bike, which were very noticeable for me in most cases. Very often we went in a good direction. These were things that are part of a test, where you take a different path every now and then. “

New ideas in the coordination work

“But we have always been able to react quickly and find solutions immediately. I am very pleased that we have found out some positive things that I have perhaps always missed a bit. So I am more than satisfied, even though we definitely still have some work to do,” said Schrötter.

“But first we have to let these two days sink in a bit, analyse everything and, with this information and knowledge, continue our preparations in the same way next week in Portimao,” commented Schrötter, who will meet his rivals in Portugal from 19 to 21 February.
