Marcel Schrötter: No good training opportunities in Germany

Moto2 World Championship rider Marcel Schrötter is drawn to Italy and Spain in winter: Especially the Italian motocross tracks inspire the German

Bad weather and a lack of training opportunities make it difficult for German riders to prepare for the season in winter. While there is usually no bike turning in Germany from November to March, there is busy training in Spain and also in Italy. Moto2 World Championship rider Marcel Schrötter is also drawn to the south.

Schrötter is enthusiastic about the many good motocross tracks in Italy. “Italy is absolutely amazing,” “There’s a top track every few kilometres. You don’t have 17 or 20 degrees like in Spain, but because it’s relatively sandy and there’s softer ground, you can ride very well there. “

Most of all, Schrötter likes to train with his training group, which includes some prominent names from MotoGP. “They were also in Italy last year and saw how insanely good the motocross tracks are. Jack Miller wanted to be there for the week as well. I don’t know when he’ll be back from Australia,” commented Schrötter.

“After that we will go to Spain and train there for another week or two. I probably won’t go to a circuit because I don’t have my own bike and the effort is big,” Schrötter explains. “If I had a bike ready to ride there would be no question. I would get a bike, but that would be standard. “

Training with a standard bike does nothing for Schrötter. “I’ve noticed that the last few years, it’s quite cool for one day to get back up to speed in the winter, but they’re so far away in parts, like with the brakes. There the change is sometimes so big that the race bike, when it starts again, is foreign. That’s no use then,” he reasons.

“If it did, I would have to build a motorbike that is very similar. We are not allowed to ride the same bike. But that’s a huge effort for three to four days that you have time to ride a motorbike. That’s why I’m concentrating on flat-track riding, mountain biking and road biking in Spain. That’s two weeks of full throttle training. The first test starts at the beginning of February, so there is not much time left,” said the German.
