Marc Marquez with numerous laps on a Honda RC213V-S on Sunday as he continues to prepare for his return to the MotoGP bike
Marquez’s comeback plans continue to move forward after months out of action. The eight-time motorbike world champion and six-time premier class MotoGP champion has been out of action with vision problems since his motocross crash on 30 October
Now, within days, Marquez was first back on with the motocross bike and shortly after on a production bike to regain riding experience and give his ophthalmologist clues about a possible return to the MotoGP bike.
According to the Honda factory team via Twitter, Marquez did numerous laps of the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao on Sunday on a Honda RC213V-S – effectively the street version of his MotoGP bike.
“Out for a Sunday ride. Marc Marquez is back on track riding the RC213V-S to further evaluate his condition ahead of the 2022 season,” said the Honda factory team.
As heard at a Honda press conference on Friday, the stated aim is for Marquez to be back on his regular RC213V before the end of MotoGP pre-season testing, or at the latest for the MotoGP season opener.
“It looks like we are on course,” Marquez had said on Friday, adding, “But before that I have to test on a Grand Prix circuit at high speeds. Visibility is something to take very seriously. I will follow the advice of my doctors. ”
With Sunday’s track day in Portimao, the Honda factory rider hopes to have cleared the next hurdle on the way to his planned comeback. The official tests with all teams in preparation for the 2022 MotoGP season will take place on 5-6 February in Sepang (Malaysia) and from 11-13 February in Mandalika (Indonesia).
Between the two test dates, the official team presentation of the Honda factory team will take place on 8 February (MotoGP bikes 2022: dates and schedule of presentations). MotoGP season opener 2022 is on 6 March in Losail (Qatar) (MotoGP Calendar 2022).
