After his heavy crash in Indonesia, Marc Marquez’s vision problems have returned – It is unclear how long the Honda rider will be out this time
The injury misfortune of Marc Marquez does not stop: After the Honda rider crashed heavily in the warm-up for the Indonesian Grand Prix and was therefore unable to take part in the race, he is now threatening to be out even longer
After the highsider, no injuries were detected apart from a concussion. But as a result of the impact, the visual problems Marquez was already suffering from at the end of last year have returned, as Honda officially confirmed in a statement this Tuesday.
“During the return trip to Spain, Marc Marquez began to experience problems with his vision,” it said. “On arrival in Barcelona on Monday, he had an emergency visit with his trusted ophthalmologist, Dr Sanchez Dalmau, who confirmed a return of diplopia after an examination. “
However, Dalmau gives a cautious all-clear: The renewed paralysis of the fourth optic nerve in the right eye, which causes the diplopia, is “less pronounced” than when he was injured in November. It was therefore decided to go for conservative treatment with regular medical tests.
Marquez himself wrote on his Twitter channel on Tuesday, “It seems I am experiencing deja vu. On the way back to Spain I had problems with my vision and we decided to see Dr Sanchez Dalmau who confirmed that it was a new episode of diplopia. “
“Fortunately, it is less severe than the injury I had at the end of last year. But now it’s time to rest and wait to see how the injury develops. As always, thanks to everyone for the support!!!” he also addressed his fans.
During the current 2021 season, Marquez had crashed during off-road training and subsequently complained of double vision (diplopia). He had to sit out the last two races of the season in Portimao and Valencia and was also absent from the November test in Jerez.
It is unclear how long Marquez will be out this time due to the renewed visual problems. He is due to be examined again next week to assess the development of the injury. The next Grand Prix will be in Argentina on 3 April.
