ManCity makes history – emotions at Klopp – Haaland crowned

Manchester City are English champions again, Jürgen Klopp gets his highly emotional farewell – and Manchester United continue to fear for Europe. The promoted teams say goodbye straight away. All Premier League decisions at a glance

In the end, it was business as usual: Manchester City won the English championship again with a 3:1 home win against West Ham United – and even made history in the process. Never before in the history of England’s top flight had a team won four championships in a row.

The performance of coach Pep Guardiola’s team (sixth championship in seven City seasons) is even more impressive given the competition on the island.

For the second time in a row, ManCity were also the Premier League’s top scorers: After the 36 goals in the previous season, which had given Haaland a new league record, the Norwegian “only” scored 27 in 2023/24, which second-placed Palmer – who moved from ManCity to Chelsea – could not match (22).

On Sunday, however, someone else became the key figure for the Sky Blues: Foden, who is considered the top favorite for the title as “Player of the Season”, put the favorites on course with a brace (2nd, 18th) and thus took away Arsenal’s hopes in the long-distance duel early on. There was only a brief spell of excitement after Kudus’s stunning goal (42′) before Rodri (59′) put the lid on it

CL contender Villa outclassed

Arsenal were once again reduced to the role of spectators at the championship celebrations: In the home game against Everton, the Gunners found it extremely difficult, even falling behind (Gueye, 40th), before Tomiyasu (43rd) and European Championship player Havertz (89th) turned the tables. Despite 89 points, Arsenal remain in second place.

Liverpool and Aston Villa also made it into the “new” Champions League alongside the leading duo. While the Reds gave their coach Jürgen Klopp a highly emotional farewell with a 2-0 win against Wolves, Villa went down 5-0 at Crystal Palace, who were remarkable under Oliver Glasner. Only Watkins was allowed to “cheer”, with the England international striker becoming the season’s best assist provider with 13 assists

ManUnited hope to reach the FA Cup final – Chelsea and Newcastle too

Only the Europa League remains for Tottenham Hotspur, who won 3-0 at Sheffield United but finished fifth behind Aston Villa on goal difference. Chelsea FC, who won 2:1 against Bournemouth, will at least play in the unloved Conference League next season.

However, if Manchester City win the FA Cup final against city rivals United, the Blues will also be allowed to compete in the Europa League. Newcastle secured seventh place with a 4-2 win over Brentford, which would be enough for the Conference League if Man City won the double. United remained in eighth place after a 2-0 win at Brighton, which saw coach Roberto de Zerbi depart.

This means that if the Red Devils lose the FA Cup final, the fans at Old Trafford will definitely have to do without European soccer in the new season

Premier League negative record for Sheffield

Meanwhile, the three promoted teams secretly, quietly and quietly said goodbye again: Luton Town, with 26 points, were still halfway within striking distance of the first non-relegation place (Nottingham with 32 points), Burnley close behind (24). Sheffield, however, only scored 16 points and became the first club in Premier League history to concede more than 100 goals – in the end it was 104.
