Manchester United are in the market for a central defender, with Marquinhos, Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng as the latest players to enter the conversation.
Marquinhos to Manchester United
Thomas Tuchel made Marquinhos surplus to requirements in PSG, so his agent Giuliano Bertolucci flew to England to discuss a possible deal with Manchester United. The player himself would prefer to stay in France, since he feels comfortable in Paris, but might be left with no choice but to move. His current market value is around €55 million.
Harry Maguire to Manchester United
Harry Maguire is a wanted man. He was already considered to be one of the best central defenders in the Premier League after a fabulous season for Leicester City, but his reputation rose further following his confident World Cup display. The 25-year-old is currently on vacation, but that hasn’t stopped Manchester United from tagging him as a transfer target. His evaluation is similar to Marquinhos’, but unlike PSG, Leicester wants to hold on to one of the team’s best players, especially after losing Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City.
Jerome Boateng to Manchester United
The Red Devils are also considering a move for Bayern’s Jerome Boateng. Back in April, the experienced German international hinted his time at the club could be coming to an end.
“What are the goals I have not reached yet? Do I, time and time again, want to prove myself at the same club with the same pre-conditions?”
Niko Kovac is aware of the interest for his 29-year-old centre-back.
“I know Jerome quite well and I’m confident that he will stay with Bayern.”
Thomas Tuchel is the one who wants Boateng at PSG. The French side now faces competition from Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Leonardo Bonucci and Toby Aiderweireld are two other centre-backs on Manchester’s wish list.
Alex Sandro to Manchester United
Multiple sources claim that Alex Sandro already agreed terms with Manchester United, mostly because of his low salary at Juventus.
“Manchester United have agreed personal terms in advance with Alex Sandro, he’s not particularly well paid at Juventus so it’s been easy to say ‘we’ll double your salary if you come to us’ and push for the move.”
That, however, doesn’t mean the transfer will go through. Juventus is not actively looking to sell but could allow the Brazilian left back to leave if their €55 million asking price is met. PSG is in the running as well.
