After a season that saw Manchester United finish a long distance behind their local rivals Manchester City in the Premier League and lose the FA Cup Final to Chelsea, United fans were hoping for some signs of intent in the transfer market this summer. The signing of Sanchez hasn’t quite worked out how Mourinho would have hoped and Paul Pogba has had a fair bit of criticism over his form this season.
United’s first big name signing of the transfer window
The Red Devils have moved quickly to bolster their ranks with a big name signing in the form of Brazilian midfielder Fred for a fee that is reported to be worth up to £52 million. Fred has attracted attention across the globe for some years and many were surprised when he moved into the Ukrainian Premier League to play for Shakhtar Donetsk when a host of other high profile teams had been linked with signing him.
However, he has been playing there for the last four seasons, making 101 appearances and scoring 10 goals. He was also subject to controversy when he was banned for testing positive for a banned substance during the 2015 Copa America.
Brazilian talent

United will be hoping that Fred can reproduce the form that saw him lined up as the next biggest Brazilian star of the game. With just 8 international caps to his name, he will be hoping that his big money move to Premiership giants Manchester United will give him the stage to show the world his talents.
How the new United team will look at the start of the 2018-2019 season is yet to be revealed, with more incomings and outgoings expected. The everlasting transfer saga involving De Gea and a possible move to Real Madrid could continue and a number of young stars are reportedly unhappy at their lack of match time. Martial will be upset that he missed out on the France squad and that could be a big motivation for him to seek a move elsewhere in search of more games.
A new-look midfield
With Carrick moving into a coaching role and Fellaini seemingly not renewing his contract, there will be some midfield positions up for grabs in the squad if not the starting eleven. Pogba has been linked with moves away from United and there have been rumours that they might move for Gareth Bale, so we could be seeing a very different line-up at Old Trafford next season.
