Lys and Squire also in the main draw of the French Open

After Jule Niemeier, Eva Lys and Henri Squire have also secured a place in the main draw of the French Open via the qualifying rounds

Lys (22) from Hamburg beat Anastassija Sacharowa from Russia 6:3, 6:7 (5:7), 6:1 in the third and final qualifying round. Squire (23) from Duisburg made it into the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Italian Andrea Vavassori.

Jule Niemeier (24) from Dortmund had already booked her ticket to the main draw on Thursday with a two-set win against Dalma Galfi from Hungary. The former Wimbledon quarter-finalist, who had temporarily dropped out of the top 100 of the world rankings after a long slump in form, was convincing in all three qualifying matches.

A total of 13 German players will start in the main draw of the individual events at the French Open, which begins on Sunday. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev is the only German professional seeded fourth, although he was drawn to play Spanish record winner Rafael Nadal in the first round
