When healthy, he’s a supreme technician, capable of hitting accurate long-range shots and sending sniper passes. The description resembles the one of a certain Brazilian player who left Liverpool for Barcelona last winter – Philippe Coutinho.

Jurgen Klopp and his staff were quick to notice the similarities. At the beginning of this summer, The Reds approached Lyon, eventually agreeing to a €60 million deal. However, all those injuries must have taken their toll, as Fekir failed his Liverpool medical. The transfer was cancelled to the disappointment of the player, but to the joy of Lyon fans who adore their captain. Fekir had even recorded an interview with the club website ahead of his unveiling.
Since then, the English side has spent a fortune in acquiring Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker (nearly €200 million). Yes, they have plenty to spare after reaching the Champions League final, but funds aren’t limitless.

Lyon has set the deadline for Liverpool to re-engage in transfer talks to the end of July. At this point, it doesn’t appear Liverpool are likely to make a move, although recent news regarding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury is not encouraging as he might be forced to miss most of the upcoming season. Fekir would fill that roster hole ideally.
Real Madrid and Manchester United are two more clubs who have expressed interest in the 24-year-old. Nabil Fekir is a great footballer but it may take another year of consistent quality displays to convince teams to splash the cash that Lyon demands.
