Luis Diaz: “I ask for the release of my father”

Luis Diaz (26) has spoken out about the situation surrounding his kidnapped father after his successful comeback in Liverpool’s draw at Luton

Luis Diaz addressed his father’s kidnappers via Instagram on Sunday night after scoring a crucial goal for Liverpool FC in their 1-1 draw at Luton. The 26-year-old wrote a statement – “not as a footballer, but as the son of Manuel Diaz”.

His father was a hard-working person, “the pillar of our family” and had been kidnapped, said Luis Diaz. He addressed himself directly to the ELN, the largest rebel group in Colombia, and asked “for the immediate release of my father. And I ask the international organizations to work for his freedom.”

Like his mother, who was also kidnapped but quickly released, and his siblings, Luis Diaz’s fear and despair is growing “with every second, with every minute”. “We have no words to describe what we feel.” The suffering will only end “when we can welcome my dad home again.”

Thoughts with “many families in my country “

At the end of the statement, Luis Diaz addressed the kidnappers “in the name of love and compassion”, asking them to “reconsider their actions and allow us to get him back”.

Finally, the 26-year-old also expressed his gratitude – to all Colombians and the “international community. For the support we have received, for the many expressions of affection and solidarity in this difficult moment we are experiencing.”

Luis Diaz did not want to hide the fact that “many families in my country” are suffering from kidnappings. He dedicated his goal earlier in the evening to “all the hostages in my country” and to his father Manuel
