The BBL was also represented in the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League: The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg met the Spanish representative Manresa in the fight for a ticket to the final – and lost out.
The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg missed out on a place in the final of the FIBA Basketball Champions League. The Bundesliga club lost its semi-final match against Baxi Manresa with 55:63 (35:35) in Bilbao on Friday. With a rate of 28.6 percent from the field, the weak offensive performance was decisive for the defeat.
Ludwigsburg defended strongly as usual and allowed only five points in the first five minutes. However, coach John Patrick’s team went four minutes without scoring themselves. After that, the game picked up a bit, with Justin Simon taking over offensively: He scored ten of his 18 points in the second quarter.
After an even first half, Ludwigsburg had to let up a bit in the third quarter, missing too many chances from the free-throw line as well as from outside. With only six points scored in the final period, the Bundesliga team was unable to catch up.
In the match for third place, the Ludwigsburg team will meet Hapoel Holon on Sunday at 5 pm. The Israeli first division team was beaten 71-78 by Lenovo Tenerife in the other semi-final of the final tournament in Bilbao.
