Maxi Kleber will stay with the Dallas Mavericks, that has now been officially confirmed.
The 30-year-old, who was traded to Texas from Bayern Munich in 2017 and also played with club icon Dirk Nowitzki while with the Mavs, has extended his contract. The franchise made the announcement on Thursday (local time).
Kleber is said to have extended his contract, which expires next year, by three years until the 2025/26 season and will receive a total of 33 million US dollars in return, according to coinciding media reports. The Würzburg native has developed into an important player in the Mavericks rotation in recent seasons.
The power forward is not competing in the current European Championship. Kleber justified his absence with a necessary time-out. “After two exhausting years marked by the pandemic with only short summer breaks, I will use this summer to get a mental and physical break,” he explained the move.
Even without Kleber, the DBB team has been convincing so far at the home European Championships and is already aiming for the quarter-finals against Montenegro on Saturday.
