Lucky Loser Altmaier in the round of 16 in Rotterdam

The world no. 93 beats Aleksandar Kovacevic from the USA in his opening match. He moved up to the main draw at short notice.

Daniel Altmaier (Kempen) took his unexpected chance as a lucky loser at the ATP tournament in Rotterdam and advanced to the round of 16. The tennis pro, who was eliminated in the qualifiers and moved up because of an illness-related cancellation by Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, beat Aleksandar Kovacevic from the USA 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Altmaier will now face Arthur Fils (France/No. 7).

Altmaier only found out shortly before the start of the match that Mpetshi Perricard would not be able to compete. As a result, the first set was lost by a clear margin, but then the world no. 93 fought his way back into the match. He managed to break in the second and third sets, and Altmaier took the first match point.

Jan-Lennard Struff will also be competing at the hard court tournament in Rotterdam. The Warsteiner will face Fabian Marozsan from Hungary in the first round.
