The search for a new head coach has come to an end at Würzburger Kickers. Danny Schwarz, who has coached all of FC Bayern’s youth teams, joins FWK together with co-trainer Benjamin Schwarz.
After the dismissal of Torsten Ziegner, Dieter Wirsching and Sebastian Neumann had taken over the coaching post at the Kickers on an interim basis, both of whom are now returning to their old duties at the club. With Danny Schwarz, the Lower Franconians have now hired a new coach who has held the UEFA Pro Licence since 2021 and coached all of the record champions’ youth teams after his career with FC Bayern Munich ended. As a professional, Schwarz played for VfB Stuttgart, SpVgg Unterhaching and TSV 1860 München, among others. In 2012, the native of Göppingen ended his active career at Bayern II.
Lastly, the 46-year-old took care of “the players under contract at the record champion who were loaned out to other clubs”, according to the FWK. Earlier this year, Schwarz also helped out as coach of the U23s. “We are very happy that we were able to sign Danny Schwarz and Benjamin Schwarz as the new coaching team. After intensive talks, we believe that Danny is the best choice to quickly bring the team back on track for success,” said Würzburg’s CEO Christian Jäger, hoping for a lot from the new coaching duo, who are neither related nor in-laws despite sharing the same surname.
Schwarz should shape the young team
“Danny has a lot of experience in working with talent. Our team is young and we believe that he can shape the team and bring every single player to the next level of performance,” continues Jäger. Schwarz, for whom the Kickers are his first stop as a coach in the professional sector, is also looking forward to the new task at the Dallenberg. “The challenge at the Kickers appeals to me very much. I would like to thank those responsible for the trust they have placed in me and I am looking forward to working with a young team that has a lot of potential. We will work intensively and hopefully also achieve success quickly.”
Würzburg have not been spoiled with success recently, with two defeats in the league. After eleven games, the team, which was relegated from the second division, is in a weak 19th place. In order not to lose any time, the coaching team is getting to work with immediate effect. After an introduction at the office, the first joint training session is already scheduled for Wednesday at 10.30 a.m.
